Last weekend we ventured out as Team Personal Best Sports Therapy as we sponsored the Richmondshire Castle 10Km road race this year hosted by Swaledale Running Club.
The atmosphere was electric at the Richmond Town Hall on Sunday morning, bustling with competitors along with various family members coming to cheer their loved ones on.
Pre race nerves taking everyone by storm, runners wrapped up in their various pieces of sports gear keeping them warm and dry on a dull and dismal Autumn day in North Yorkshire - I’m afraid the Yorkshire rain did not disappoint, seasoned runners all around praising the damp weather conditions keeping them cool whist endured what was sure to be a though 10K taking in the picturesque views as the run through the Richmondshire countryside.
As the call to the Start point drew nearer the competitors layed down their cups of tea and took off their warm kit, beginning to discuss the route, putting the last pin in their race number and making their way down The Bar Castle Hill onto The Battlegrounds where they would meet there loved ones as they stood waiting to wave them off with the best of luck.
As they drew up on starting line checking laces and preforming their invaluable stretches prior what was sure to be a though race through the countryside, the invaluable army of volunteers gave their mandatory safety brief and started the countdown until they were released from the gates and onto the Richmondshire Castle 2018 route.
As they set off racers started their watches and the crowds gave their words of encouragements with cheering and clapping heard as the runners disappeared alongside the river Swale, onwards and upwards towards Green Bridge where they were sure to meet the first of some of the invaluable volunteers making the route.
We pushed on to the Finnish line set within the grounds of Richmond Castle, with its breath taking views of the Yorkshire Dales and simply one of the finest tourist attractions in North Yorkshire.
As the runners approached the Finnish line they were greeted by an almighty cheer from the spectators from far and wide, They passed though the gates and though the stone archways onto the Cockpit Garden within the grounds of the castle before the last sprint for the finish line which I’m sure was a sight for sore eyes and legs.
We would like to say a massage well done to all the competitors and all the support staff, event organisers and everyone else that made it such a special day.
We will be sure to look out for next year and all of us at Personal Best Sports Therapy hope to see lots more familiar faces on the start line for what will be another fantastic event brought to us by Swaledale Running Club.
